Course Overview

If you’re looking for a photography course that helps you understand your camera settings and allows you to take better photos then look no further.

GrizzlyApple’s courses are perfect for those just starting out or for people wanting to develop their skills further.  There are several courses available as everybody learns in a different way and they are  designed to ensure they help you achieve exactly what you want.

There is no complicated course work or a rigid study programme. You will learn whilst taking photos with your camera in a simple easy to understand way.

Unlike many courses you don’t need a basic understanding, you can be a complete beginner, knowing nothing about photography.  It’s an ideal way to learn how to use your camera whilst enjoying the experience.

I truly believe in the saying, that if you hear something you’re likely to forget it.  If you see it demonstrated you’re more likely to remember it, but by actually do it you understand it and that is the key.  Understand photography whilst taking photo’s and discussing how to capture images will make everything fall into place.

Composition Technics

Learn how to apply some simple photography composition techniques to make your photographs look more interesting.

Apertures & Shutter Speeds

This is one of the main areas that stop people moving away from the Automatic mode.  It seems confusing, but once explained in easy to understand ways you’ll be able to move away from the Automatic mode and begin to be creative with other settings.  Within a relatively short time you’ll be using the manual mode to take images you’ve always wanted to.

Motion Blur & Freezing Action

By simply applying some easy settings you can change the feel of an image.  You will learn how to capture the milky effect of moving water through to freezing movement totally.

Optics, Lenses & Kit

Before you invest in more equipment discover how different lenses change the angle of view and what all those numbers mean on the lens. Ensure you invest in the items you need and will use.

Depth of Field (what is in focus)

Instruction manuals are often confusing when it comes to explaining depth of field.  Understanding depth of field is much easier when you actually take photos and see the results.  Within a very short time you will understand the important link between apertures and shutter speeds.

Using Your Camera in Manual

Once you understand all the basics, putting them together is easy.  Very soon you’ll be using full manual mode to create the photography effects you’ve always wanted to.  This freedom gives you all the creative options that will allow you to develop your own style or recreate the styles you love.

Exposure

This is nothing more than balancing light to capture the correct ‘brightness’ level within a picture. Understand how to capture the correct amount of light and when you may need to use other settings or the help of a Tripod.

ISO (Light sensitivity settings)

It’s not as complicated as it sounds and you will quickly learn how you can use ISO setting to get images you didn’t think were possible.

Image Resolution

A setting that isn’t always fully understood, often causes disappointment when printing or viewing images at a larger scale.

The mystery will very quickly be explained and help avoid disappointing images.

Focus

Sometimes getting the elements of an image in focus can be difficult.  More likely than not that is because the camera is trying to do that for you and has got it wrong.  Understanding how to avoid unsharp images will ensure you have the best chance of capturing an image you’ll want to keep.

Understanding Light

Learn how to use light to create a different feel to your images and maximise opportunities.
